Two monitors, two keyboards, two users on one PC: how to set it up.

Yes, one PC can run two monitors, two keyboards and two mice for two different users at the same time. Plug a second monitor, keyboard and mouse into the PC, install Hydra Multi-Seat, then hand each seat its screen, keyboard and mouse in the panel. Each person signs in to their own Windows account.

One PC, a seat for everyone: Hydra Multi-Seat in under two minutes.

What you need

  • Windows 10 and 11 (x64).
  • A graphics card from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
  • For each person, a screen, a keyboard and a mouse.
  • Game controllers, headsets and webcams work too: give each seat its own.

Each person needs at least one screen of their own. A second PC isn't needed: everything plugs into the one you have.

Step 1. Install and plug in

Download Hydra and install it on your PC like any Windows app. Then connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse for each person to the PC. The screens can use any of your graphics cards, including the graphics built into your processor.

Step 2. Hand out the gear

In the Hydra panel, give each seat its screen, keyboard, mouse and sound. Press a key or move a mouse and the panel lights up that device, so you know whose it is. You can name and colour each seat so everyone knows which one is theirs.

Step 3. Everyone signs in

Each person uses their own Windows account, apps, files and saves, all at the same time.

Sound, controllers and extra screens

  • Sound. Every seat has its own sound from the start, through its own headset or speakers, with the usual Windows volume slider changing only that seat. You can also share one pair of speakers, with the left side for one seat and the right for the other.
  • Game controllers, headsets and webcams. Give each seat its own.
  • More than one screen per seat. Two and two, three and one, any split.
  • One ultrawide, two people. Use the monitor's picture-by-picture mode.

Changing the setup later

Nobody has to stop. Add, stop or remove a seat, or move a screen from one seat to another, right in the panel while everyone keeps working. You can save setups you use often as templates, for example one seat for when you're alone and two for game night. Only switching Hydra on or off, updating it or uninstalling it needs a restart.

Questions people ask

Yes, with multiseat software. In Hydra Multi-Seat each person gets a screen, a keyboard and a mouse of their own, plus their own sound and Windows account, on the same PC.

Do both monitors have to be on the same graphics card?

No. Screens can come from one graphics card or several, including the graphics built into your processor, in any mix.

Can one person have more than one screen?

Yes. Give each seat as many screens as you like, in any split, two and two or three and one.

Can two people share one ultrawide monitor?

Yes. Use the monitor's picture-by-picture mode, and give each half to a seat.

Do I need to restart to change who has what?

No. Move a screen between seats, hand a keyboard or mouse to a seat, or add and stop a seat in the panel while everyone keeps working. Only switching it on or off, updating it or uninstalling it needs a restart.
